NEW!   PRE-OVERDUE NOTICES
Give us your e-mail address and we will send you notification three days before your library materials are due! (This service is available through e-mail only.)

Closings: The library will be closed Saturday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day, and all Saturdays in August. It will be closed Saturday, Sept. 5, and Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day.

E-mail Notifications: Would you like to be notified three days in advance of your library materials coming due so you can remember to return them on time? Would you prefer to be notified by e-mail when you reserve an item from Bolton or order through Interlibrary Loan? Please call or stop by to register your e-mail address.

Library Metrics: We will be installing Library Metrics, a program that regulates the time each patron has on our computers, in the near future. The computers are in great demand and patrons have suggested that we introduce time restrictions. Please remember to always bring your library card with you; you will need it to use a computer or borrow material.

Summer "Staycations": The library has many passes to area attractions that can be borrowed with your library card and a $20 returnable deposit. We also have displays featuring Connecticut Staycation opportunities such as The Connecticut Wine Trail and the Eastern Connecticut Ice Cream Trail. We have many books on day tripping in Connecticut. So when planning your summer activities, make the library your first stop.

NEW! Wattage Readers: Save money on your electric bill by identifying "energy hogs" in your home. The library now has three wattage readers available for borrowing. Plug an appliance into the Kill A Watt device and it will display power consumption by the kilowatt-hour. Assess the quality of the electrical power provided from your utility company by monitoring voltage, line frequency, and power factor. The reader can be checked out with your library card for a one-week period.

Kid Fun: The summer reading theme is "Be Creative @ Your Library." We have many books to help kids with activities in their spare time. We will also offer a series of special programs throughout the summer for kids of all ages. We encourage children to read as much as they can over the summer and to fill out their reading records. Please contact the library for more details.

Friends' Booksale: Paperbacks are needed for the Friends of the Library book sales. Please consider donating your gently used 7" by 4" size paperbacks.

New Book Bags: By popular request, the library will be selling environmentally friendly books bags. These totes are very useful and will help to eliminate plastic and paper bags.

Tight Budget at Home? Why purchase books, music and movies when you can borrow them for free? Your Bolton library card gives you access to all this and more:

  • Bestselling books for all ages

  • Books on CD and tape - great for commuting or exercising

  • Music CDs in a variety of genres

  • Movie DVDs for all ages, including an interesting selection of documentaries and exercise programs

  • Passes for free or reduced admission to area museums and attractions

  • Free downloadable (from home) audiobooks for your MP3 player or iPod

  • Free access from home to a huge database of full-text articles from hundreds of magazine and newspaper titles
If you don't see what you want or need, just tell one of the library staff and we will find it for you. Your library card is all you need to access a wealth of information and leisure materials either in the library or online. Let your tax dollars work for you!

Looking for Small Collections: We are looking for small collections to display in our beautiful octagonal display case that was donated by longtime resident Ella Sumner. If you have a small collection and would like to display it at the library for three months, please contact us. We are currently displaying the Bolton Girl Scouts' food pantry giving tree. Come in and check it out. We would love to have a wide variety of displays in this case.

Cell Phones: Please remember to turn off the ringer on your cell phone when entering the library and to take your calls outside or in the foyer so as not to disturb other library patrons.

Bentley Boutique: The library has a selection of new children's books that can be purchased for the library collection in honor of someone special. This is a great way to commemorate anniversaries, birthdays and Grandma, too!

Wireless Access: Are you looking for a place to work on your laptop? Come to the library--we have a wireless connection for you! (You must have a valid Bolton library card to use this service.)

Don't Forget Your Library Cards: Please remember to bring your library card when checking out material, reserving an item from Bibliomation or iCONN, or logging on to the wireless connection. Patrons must present a valid library card in their own name to assure accuracy and privacy and to expedite the transaction. There will be no exceptions to this policy. Thank you for your cooperation.
