Volume XVII Issue 3, June/July 2008 School News
From the Superintendent's Office The busy spring season of activities within the Bolton Public Schools is quickly coming to a close, with the culmination of the year just around the corner. I would encourage community members to review the spring schedules at www.boltonpublicschools.com. Of particular note are the following:
High School Graduation: June 19 at 6 p.m. We wish to thank Dr. Lanfranchi for his service to the Bolton school district. In addition to his duties as principal, Dr. Lanfranchi was instrumental in implementing the recommendations of the NELMS (New England League of Middle Schools) committee utilizing the School Improvement Plan; developing a close relationship with the PTA and supporting their many activities throughout the years and serving as the administrative union representative. Phil holds professional educator certificates in mathematics, biology, chemistry, earth science, and general science grades 7Ð12, as well as a doctorate in educational leadership. His expertise and experience in the educational field will truly be missed and we wish him the best in his future endeavors. As I reflect on the year gone by, I am truly proud of all of the work that is being done on behalf of students by the entire school staff. This year I have witnessed exciting accomplishments on the part of students, both academically and athletically. This can be attributed to the guidance of the adults in their life, both in school and at home. As a community, you can certainly be proud of the students in your school district as being a model for other schools to strive to achieve. I wish you an enjoyable summer and, as always, will be pleased to take your comments, suggestions and/or concerns. Please feel free to contact me at 643-1569 or mark.winzler@boltonct.org. BOLTON SCHOLARSHIP FUND The Bolton Scholarship Committee sincerely thanks everyone who contributed to the Bolton Scholarship Fund drive. It is the generous support of individuals, the business community, the educational, civic, and service organizations, and the sponsors of the memorial and named scholarships that enables the committee to provide financial assistance to further the education of Bolton residents and Bolton High School graduates. VARIETY SHOW GETS RAVE REVIEWS The Bolton Center School Variety Show held on May 2 and 3 was a huge success, with 178 children performing and over 1,200 tickets sold. The theme was the 1970s, and many acts included segments of television shows, movies, dances, and music from that time. The costumes were phenomenal, and it was quite humorous for children to imagine their parents wearing similar clothing. The acts were supplemented by commercials and short Johnny Carson segments introducing different characters and performers. Bolton Students at EPCOT Early in the morning on April 9, 67 members of the Bolton High School band and choir, along with 10 chaperones, left Connecticut to travel to Orlando, Florida. Both groups had been invited to perform at Walt Disney World EPCOT Park. On April 10, the BHS band and chorus members, under the direction of Katheryn Desrosiers and Anne O'Reilly, entertained EPCOT visitors on the Future World West Stage. During the rest of the five-day trip the group visited all the remaining Disney parks and enjoyed a day at Universal Studios. Students paid for the trip with help from various fund-raisers during the fall of 2007. The students' performance on and off the stage was a credit to the Bolton school system and community. Everyone had a wonderful time and an experience they won't soon forget! |
